  • The asbestos cement pressure pipes are manufactured in the range from 80 mm to 400 mm diameters.
 
 
  • The diameter represents the ID of the pipe.
 
 
  • They are manufactured in the classes of 10,15,20 & 25. The class signifies the hydraulic test pressure at which the pipe has been tested. This means that a class 10 pipes certifies that it has been tested at a hydraulic pressure of 10 kg/cm2. The working pressure should normally be 50% of the test pressure.
 
 
  • The nominal length of the pipes is 4 mtrs. Some of the companies also manufacture pipes in the nominal length of 5 Mtrs. However the most prevalent nominal length of A.C. Pressure pipes is 4 mtrs. Mainly looking to the transportation and the handling limitations in case of 5 mtr. nominal length pipes. It is recommended that pipes of 4 mtr. length should be used.
  
 
 
The bureau of Indian Standard has specified the various parameters for checking the quality of A.C. Pressure pipes in IS : 1592/2003. The Pipes to be ISI marked has to qualify all the parameter specified in the said standard. The tests include Hydraulic working pressure test, Hydraulic bursting test, crushing test, bending test, pipe straightness test etc.
